CMW Pre-Launch Sequence
Music, CMW March 6th, 2008
Thursday night is my Canadian Music Week kick off with four shows scheduled. I’m seeing: Julie Doiron, Jenn Grant, Plants and Animals, Les Breastfeeders. I’ve seen Jenn Grant play in Ottawa when she opened for the Weakerthans. Plants and Animals are my current band crush. I’ve been listening to them since I caught them play an intimate show at the Drake.
On Friday night I’ll take in at least two shows. Raised by Swans are playing at Rancho Relaxo and Woodhands are holding things down at the Drake. What excites me most about Friday night is that only having two shows means a slower pace night. I’ll get to enjoy Raised by Swans properly at a new venue. And, I get to enjoy a new band at a venue I love.
Saturday will be a complete muck-fest. Kat has planned six shows around the city. I know nothing about any of the six bands… so… I don’t really have much more to say than that.
There is some sad news to report though; Due to a scheduling conflict, I will miss the Junction’s set. They play at almost the exact time that Plants and Animals go on. I’ve seen the Junction quite a few times so I’m definitely going to see Plants and Animals. But, it sucks because I’ve been trying to write about the Junction since my last attempt in a cold, cold Milton rec-centre went awry. Someone please put me in your car and take me to a Junction show.
Some shows I might attend but have yet to decide include Chad Hatcher, Attack in Black. I guess we’ll see what happens. Anyway, check out the Much blog for photos and words about my CMW 2008 experience.
